How to Find Article Ideas?

1. Use a Keyword Selector Tool: If you have a specific topic, but can't find a good angle, conduct an online keyword search. This tool is perfect for generating creative article ideas. Let's say you want to write an article about auto loans. Simply type in the keyword phrase "auto loan", and you'll receive an exhausted list of related keywords. For example, you could write an article on "auto loans for people with bad credit," "low rate auto loans," or "cheap auto loans."

2. Watch the News: Early morning news programs broadcast unique story ideas. About a week ago, the Today Show ran an interesting story about young people choking each other for amusement. A person is choked almost to the point of unconsciousness. Once the choking stops, the "so-called victim" experiences a euphoric feeling, comparable to a "cheap high." Last year, this same news program ran a story about unknown conditions such as Inflammatory Breast Cancer and Beauty Parlor Strokes.

3. Select a Different Angle: A good article idea can be an unknown or untouched topic, or you could put a creative twist on a topic that has been written on exhaustively. For example, there are several articles about identity theft. If you choose this topic, look for new information, or write on a specific aspect. I recently published two articles on the subject. One article dealt with "how to prevent identity theft on campus," which was written for college students. The other article, "How Thieves Steal Your Information," explored how a crafty thief can steal infomation from your computer and financial institutions.

4. Browse Magazine Articles: Subscribe to one or two magazines. Publications such as Redbook, Woman's Day, and Reader's Digest always feature unique and interesting articles. Regularly read smaller department or column sections, expand on the topic, and write a feature article.

5. Pay Attention to Conversations: What's are people thinking about? Sometimes, the best story ideas come from everyday life. Perhaps you know someone dealing with the high cost of daycare and health insurance, cyberbullying, excessive anxiety, etc.
